Culross is a living example of a village from the 16th and 17th centuries. An abbey was established in here in the 1200’s.

Culross Abbey. Look carefully at the tiny 2nd floor window in the turret. That’s where accused witches were kept. Charming.

Culross Palace - not an actual palace but the biggest, most important place in the village so it gets the title. Unable to visit inside because of a Covid outbreak amongst the National Trust Staff - or so the village gossip told us.
Good example of the painted ceilings often seen in buildings from this period. Many varied designs, usually depicting fruit, animals or sometimes people. Only wealthy people could afford these.
